Upgrading pheasant pen

Since we had a couple of break in's last year, the last one cleared out all our birds, we decided to try and make the pen as fox and mink proof as possible.
So we came up with a good plan.
First we dug a trench a foot deep all the way around the pen

Then we got 8x4 sheets of 1" mesh and put them into the trench all around the pen against the chainlink wire. Along with this we put 1"'of concrete the full width of the trench at the bottom of the sheets of mesh

Once the concrete sets we'll fill the trench back in and put a couple of strands of electric fence wire around the pen. Hopefully this will put an end to any break in's

He'd want to be one very determined fox to get around that :D Your pen looks well too, ours is in an awful state at the minute

We have rats breaking into ours...
The snares seem to take care of any foxes scoping out the pen.

hi i have seen it a good few times foxes often did outside of the pen 12 to 16 inches away and tunnel up. I know a lot of keepers recommend mesh wire layed flat on the ground 20 inchs away from the pen each time a fox digs he meets the wire the soon get fed up on the other side a trail camera well placed will give you a time the like calling at and you can be ready for them nothing wrong with what your doing again some sheets of galvinised iron around the bottom will act as a shelter belt and stop the foxes from looking in and frighten the poults

i would always use 4ft 1" chicken wire round the bottom folded out at least a foot that gives you 3ft of 1" that will stop anything small and nasty with 4ft 2" above that folded out a foot at the top then drive the electric fence posts down through the folded out flap then when whatever touches the fence he is well grounded standing on chicken wire :D
