My otherhalf has been suffering for the past couple of years with what was originally diaganoised as IBS but after further investigation was determined to be Blastocystis Hominis. She is constantly fighting a battle with headaches, pains in the stomach and wind etc

She has tried to stick to the strict diet but is getting you relief from it for the past 6 months.

I was wondering is there anyone there who has had similar problems - would they recommend any praciticioners for her to visit or possible treatments.

    Would appreciate any help.

    Thanks,
    J

Hey Jump, I am in Ireland too and have been suffering from this nasty little thing for 2 years now also. I tried to do the triple drug cocktail about a year ago that Jackie talks about on the bad bugs website but it almost killed me so I had just given up since. For the last year I have sort of kept the Blasto slighty under control when I ordered a 15 Hrtz parastie zapper from the USA. If I rub tons of fresh garlic on a piece of toast too then that usually keeps it quiet and also I have been putting Tumeric in water and drinking tons of that and that sort of has been helping. I was taking all the herbs liek Oregano oil and Wormwood and eating soups full of spices like cayenne, tumeric, star anis, cinnamon, garlic, ginger, chili etc trying to do the diet a year ago and felt way better but didn't cure it in the end so just sort of gave up until now.

But I have recently read that there is a good amount of people in the USA that have cured the Blastocystis by taking the antibiotic Nitazoxanide for 28 days while doing the Blasto diet. So I am going to order the Nitazoxanide from Brazil soon and I am going to go for it again. Its recommended to continue the diet during the anit biotic treatment and for about 6 weeks after the dose is finished too and then there is one probiotic you can take once the drugs are finished and its called Florastor in the USA but has some weird name here and its abotu 60 Euro for a small amount and only one health food store on Grafton St sells it but I forget the name so I might skip that part maybe.

So.....I am confused about the diet and I have heard many conflicting reports as there is different types of Blastocystis that liek different thing.
I could be wrong but obvioulsy steamed veggies and grilled fish are good, I hear that Pastuerized goats milk is ok and I hear alkaline grains are good too so that means you could have millet flakes, buckwheat flakes or Quinoa with goats milk. Also for a smoothie its possible that you could have a smotthie made from goats milk, avocado and cinnamon. Not very tasty I imagine but its about as good as it might get for a while. Then spicey soups made from mostly what I mentioned earlier is great and then if you can find somewher emaking raw flax crackers then they should be fine. They usually just have linseeds and spices and onions in them. There is a great brand called Natasha's living foods and they sell their products in the health food store Nourish on Wicklow Street off Grafton St. You can check the ingredients to see whats in them. and possibly you could eat them with the soup or an olive tapanade made from lemons, olives, garlic, olive oil and sea salt. Sea salt is better than other salt I think as its more alkaline. I am not 100% certain if olives are ok on the diet but I am trying to find someone to confirm this. As far as I know carrots have too much sugar and beetroot too. So lots of green juices will be amazing also if you have a juicer. Peanuts and cashews are not ok. Brazil nuts and almonds should be find and most seeds too so tahini should be fine also.

half a lemon in a litre of water should be a good drink while fighting Blasto too.

I hear hydrogen peroxide therapy is amazing too for Blasto and colonics will help a lot too.

There is a guy that made a Blasto guide book in New Zealand and his site is Blasto relief or something.

So I hope this info helps a little and if you have any good info that you discovered about this horrible little thing then let me know too as I am desperate to learn anything I can about it that can help me get rid or it once and for all hopefully soon.

    Good Luck

I was in the Health Matters Store on Grafton Street last week and one of the staff recommended the use of a product called "Paragone".

Has anyone tried it to get rid of parasites?

Paragone won't do much......If you did loads of colonics and rotated certain herbs like oil of oregano and grapefruit seed extract etc while following the strict diet then you may get rid of it over some months...

Crushed garlic soaked in virgin olive oil for 20 minutes and then poured onto food will help a lot.

Brandy and Scotch will alleviate the symptoms a lot....and might even get rid of it but the amount you would have to drink over 6 months may not be recommended for everyone.

The Triple drug cocktail works if you can handle the drugs and follow the diet!!

    Hi,
I know this is an old post but worth a try...

I have just been diagnosed with Blastosystis Hominis after 5 years of symptoms, which came on during a trip to India. My symptoms are: Gurgling tummy and constant burping, stomach cramps, alternating diarrhea and constipation, although not severe, fatigue, and brain fog. These symptoms would come and go, sometimes for a couple of months at a time.

In the past nine months I have developed: vertigo, inability to think clearly, nausea (especially in the mornings), numb arms in the mornings when I wake up, excessive thirst, alternating between feeling starving and then having no appetite and finding it difficult to eat, and extreme fatigue to the point of not being able to do anything. Again, these symptoms come and go, and when I do not have any symptoms I am very active (cycling, swimming, hiking, climbing)

After numerous blood tests, visits to various GPs, referrals to neurologist and ENT consultant (for both of which I am still awaiting appointments) I finally got a stool test and they have found blastocystis hominis. I have been on metronidazole for 11 days, nearly finished, with no improvement, in fact I feel worse.

I have been doing a lot of internet trawling and am feeling overwhelmed and terrified that I will have this for the rest of my life, there are a lot of horror stories out there... It would be great to hear from someone who had successfully gotten rid of this parasite, and if so, how. I have been reading about this triple drug therapy on the badbugs website, has anyone used it and if so what was their experience - was it easy to get a doctor to prescribe it in Ireland, is it expensive, how long is the course, would I need to take time off work if I was doing it, it sounds like it's pretty harsh on the system.

Any advice at all would be most welcome,

    Thanks

    Hey there,

Hope you've been holding up well....So I tried to reply to you abroad but this website told me I couldn't reply from the country I was living in but I am back in Ireland for a week so I am able to write now

So for Blastos....The best natural approach is to start out with the GAPS diet....If there's no GAPS practitioners in the area you live in then it's fine to do the consultation with one over skype.....might be a good idea to take an intolerance test before doing a GAPS consultation though.......GAPS will mean lots of daily bone broth with meals that will help you feel great. Cooking your food in animal fats like goose fat, Ghee (if you can tolerate) or duck fat is best....If you can find a farmers market that sells raw milk and dairy then you should be able to tolerate that...I order a digestive enzyme called GB3 from the USA and it's great....I was unable to tolerate eggs, fresh pressed carrot juice and pasteurized goat's yogurt but with the enzymes I can eat these things again and the enzymes also attack a lot of the bad bacterias in the gut. Then an absolute must for you to get is a 10 Euro enema kit from either your local pharmacy or order online with Amazon......Doing a 20 minute daily coffee enema in the morning will make you feel great for the rest of the day...to learn how to prepare the enema then google 'Dr L Wilson Coffee enema' ...It's extremely easy to do

So there's a facebook group that share their Blastocystis H experiences...There's someone on there who recently claimed to get on top of their Blasto 100% with the following protocol...

They purchased the following essential oils from this company ..... Doterra essental oils

.....and put the following amounts in a litre of water each day and drank for 4 weeks

    3 drops of oregano oil
    3 drops of lemon oil
3 drops of On Guard oil
    3 drops of digest Zen

On top of that they did a few sessions of weekly colon hydrotherapy and in the colonic they added 1 drop of the above four mentioned essential oils with 5mls of a tincture containing black walnut, cloves and wormwood.....the herbal tincture was added to a little boiling water to remove the alcohol.....then once it's cooled it is added to the very last colonic flush and you have to hold it in as long as you can

It's not always easy to find a colon hydrotherapist though who will be willing to add herbal natural stuff to their hydrotherapy machines....

....On top of this protocol another person on there claimed to have gotten on top of Blastocystis H by doing nothing but the GAPS diet for 8 months until their gut was strong enough to handle stronger herbs...and once they were able to handle stronger herbs then they followed the following parasite protocol that you can buy online for 1 Euro or something and this protocol includes things like fermented garlic and diatomaceous earth.....just google 'Good mood food parasite treatment plan' .....to find the protocol

    Good Luck

    Hi Bananaboots,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply. After visiting a few different doctors (Tropical Medical Bureau, private gastroenterologist) I was diagnosed with gallstones. The general consensus is that these, rather than the blasto, are the cause of my symptoms, and so I am in the process of trying to get this treated, although I am still waiting to see a specialist so I'm not sure what the treatment will be. However, I have been retested for blasto since I completed the course of Flagyl, and it is still there, so if I resolve the gallstones situation and am still unwell I will return to tackling the blasto.

    Thanks again
