Tattoo information for a complete noob!

I didn't want to hijack another thread so I hope the mods don't mind me making a new one!

So yeah, I'm very uninformed about tattoos and I want to get my first (and maybe only, I don't know!) tattoo during the summer. I want to get this done:

    tumblr_lxgwcbonhZ1qhobgeo1_500.jpg

It's the symbol of the deathly hallows for those who don't know. Please don't barge in saying that I'll regret it and that because I am quite sure that I won't, Harry Potter has been an obsession of mine for 10+ years and I can't imagine a life without it. :)

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has an approximate guess as to how much it would cost? I want quality and a good, hygienic studio, not somewhere cheap and (probably) not great.
Also, you've probably noticed that the thickness of the lines is not consistent. I want my tattoo to be like this too, as I think it looks better that way, as if it were drawn with a quill! Would that be hard for a tattoo artist to do? Also I want the size to be the same as in the picture, relative to my foot obviously.
Lastly, can anybody recommend a good tattooist in the Galway area?

Thanks to anyone who contributes! And excuse the stupid questions, as I said I don't really know anything about tatts!

    Firstly, great tattoo idea :)

Secondly, most places have a "minimum price," no matter how small the tattoo. This can range, but is generally about 70 euro. Your tattoo would fall into this range, as it would be quite quick.

This tattoo would be easy for any competent artist - no issues at all with the thickness of the lines.

That's great, thanks so much! :)

I wouldn't recommend getting it done in that area the same as the picture as the ink won't hold all too well, and would possibly fade because of the location and movement in the area.

I see, thanks! What about on the other side of my ankle on the outside, or on either side of the inside of my ankle? Or would that make any difference at all?

Depends exactly. Ideally you want a location that doesn't have hard skin or a lot of movement in the area.

    Somewhere like this

A tattoo artist could advise you better on location as they'll see what the area is like for themselves.

Thanks for the advice, honestly (and quite embarrassingly!) I hadn't realised that the location of the tattoo affects its lifespan. I'll definitely talk to the artist about it before getting it done.

Hey no need to be embarrased :) A lot of people want tattoos in areas that just might not work.

I really love that symbol. From one Potterhead to another: it's a good idea since it encompasses the entire series while still managing to look good and convey a deeper meaning. Even if one day you find yourself not so keen on Potter, you'll probably still like the tattoo.
Anyway, I'd say it'd only cost about €70-€80. Any artist should be able to follow this outline. but as people have said before me; I wouldn't recommend the area. Not only will it fade quite quickly, but I'd imagine the tattoo would rub against your shoes, which wouldn't be pleasant.
I'd really recommend getting it just above your ankle; I got my first piece there and it's holding up really well! I recently got more added onto it, and the old part is barely lighter than the newly-healed tat!

I used to want this tattoo :P

@Couer I'v been tattooed in Galway bay and inky fingers and they're both great. However for a piece this simple it isn't a big deal where you go. G's are also pretty good from what i've seen and I walked past Awol the last day and they have 10% student discounts on tattoos.

You do realise that this is quite possibly the most clichéd Harry Potter going? :D I don't care though, I really like it too! :) I much prefer this one to the other deathly hallows ones though, as I said it looks as if it were drawn with a quill, not just plain straight lines!

Thanks a lot! Oh I'll definitely have to look into Awol, a friend recommended that place to me the other day too!

By the way, @everyone, you know how you all said that a tattoo in that location would be more prone to fading? I can't see myself getting the tattoo anywhere else and I definitely don't want to get it somewhere I won't like it. I have a feeling that this will be a 'how long is a piece of string?' question, but how long approximately would it last without fading? If anyone has any experience? I would much prefer to get it touched up every year or so than to get it somewhere that I'm not that crazy about!

Ahh jeez. Err. Well, you won't need it every year anyway. If you heal it well, something like that might stay bold, black and thick for 5-7 years first time round?

See the way that person has it positioned to the side of the heel? Try and get it so that it isn't rubbing off your shoe the whole time. In general though I think feet tattoos hold quite well?

And yeah i'v been recommended Awol a few times so I think i'll shloo in during the Easter hols for something small, get ma fix.
