I spotted a `05 mondeo 2 litre ghia petrol that needs an engine, would a 1.6 or 1.8 petrol or a 2 litre diesel engine fit it? and would it also need a gearbox? how much would it cost to get done on the cheap, and would there be profit in selling it on after, from the pics I saw it looks in good nick. Price €1750. Thoughts please.

If you're paying someone to do the work they'll be no room for profit, if you plan of putting in a diesel it's a HUGE project. I'd advise you not to bother really, making a few quid isn't that easy unless you know what you're at.

Thanks for reply, what extra needs to be done to convert to diesel? Why it came to my mind is I have an identical Ghia but Finnish spec one here in Finland where I live and the car and I will be in Ireland soon for 6 months, I was thinking get an engine put in take the items I want for my own mondeo and then sell it on. Too simplistic?

I guess 1.6 petrol and 2.0 diesel would be the most desired size in Irl.

Yep, unless it's a 2.0 petrol your putting in. And they don't sell well over here :)

Wouldn't dream of trying to sell a 2 litre petrol to a Paddy :)

There was no 1.6 litre petrol engine in the MkII Mondeo. 1.8 litre minimum.

To be honest I cannot see you making any money from this venture, there are 05 Mondeos starting from €2,900 on carzone.ie. €1750 for one without an engine doesn't leave you much room.

MK 3, but you are right, 1.8 is smallest, best option would be take what I want and break it for parts, The parts I want would cost me € 1750 used here in Finland.

I replaced an engine in a 02 mkIII mondeo last october, it never ran properly after and cost me over 2 grand. Serious issues with reprogramming it to the ecu etc etc ...
Also.. You can't put a diesel engine in a petrol car.
