How much for new CV boot on Corsa?

I was changing the oil on my wife's Corsa today when I spotted this mess on the nearside front wheel. I'm not well up on the terminology, so forgive me, but grease appears to be leaking from the CV boot/ gaiter. I ran my fingers around the boot which appears to be intact but the steel clip which keeps it in place has split and is loose and therefore it is no longer forming a leak tight seal. I don't know how long the boot has been like this, but I want to get it sorted at a garage tomorrow. How much should a job like this cost, I'm presuming the joint itself is ok but of course I may be wrong? Thanks.

yeah 15 - 25euro is usually the price for a new boot im guessing seen as you only noticed the mess on the ground means there wasnt a knocking noise coming from the cv joint when she was turning a corner so i would say the joint would be ok, iv changed enough of them to know....very easy job not expensive at all so dont let any garage rip ya off, a new cv joint is usually about 50 to 70euro.

Heres an example of a corsa cv boot for price to supply. http://www.micksgarage.ie/wheel-drive-parts/cv-boot/opel/corsa/corsa-c/2000-onwards/1.2/14911/

Expect to pay for about an hours labour to have it fitted unless you're able to do it yourself.

Just an update on this. I took the car to a main dealer yesterday morning- this garage was across the road from work and very convenient for me. I had no appointment of course but they had the car for a whole day before they were able to quote me an astronomical €180 to replace the boot! No thanks, I'm bringing it to another dealer (one I trust).

My GTI failed the NCT 3 weeks back because of a frayed front left CV boot. I got a new one for €27 at a VW dealer, brought it to my indy mechanic and he did the work free of charge!

Certainly shop around. 180 is ridiculous.

Ha ha. Well, I could of course pass on his details, however I think it may have come down to the fact I've been using him for 5 years and that he had serviced my car just before it failed the NCT so it seems he has just done it as a favour. Still nice to see things like that. I tried even giving him the price of a few drinks but he refused. He knows I'll have more lads out to him anyway.

If he was doing free CV boot replacements for everybody.....he'd be a hungry guy. :p

I may be missing something, but it sounds like you are saying the boot is ok just the metal band holding it on has come undone?

If so then all that needs to be done is refit the boot onto the outer joint and fit a replacement band, a lot of people just use a cable tie to hold the joint on and it works perfectly well.

Last CV boots I've bought have been €7ish give or take a few cent.

Got the job done today at another main dealers- boot was fine, they checked the CV joint for wear (it was fine also), repacked with grease and fit a new clip, all done for €70 which I was very happy with- huge difference from the first shower of highway robbers!
