New Dimmer Switch - Light Flickering like Mad

Hi folks, as as per title I just fitted a single gang dimmer switch in my box room. Only two wires in existing switch. So I put the wire that was going to common terminal in old switch to the arrow with the cross on it on the new switch.

40w Old style bulb in it.

It's flickers like mad whether down low or up full.

Would the wires just need reversing I wonder.

    tnks.

    no they don't need reversing

maybe try a 100watt bulb if you have one
