Just replaced my chain as it was way over the max 12 and 1/8 advocated as the time to change (last march was the last replacement, also cassette and chain rings). Looks like chain is still jumping (not been out for a decent ride yet), got a new cassette ready to go (but existing one doesnt look too bad), havent got any new chainrings (ouch 60-80 euros for a 50T) . Just looking at the big ring, it looks to me like it might need replacing ? I guess I should try the cassette first, but the old 46t chainring I had last year looks better than the one below. I know they say chainrings should last a lot longer than cassettes.194274.jpg

TA rings are brilliant chainreaction might have them strongligh are also excellent , but look try out the new chain/cassette first i doubth you will need to change the rings on chainset:eek:
be sure to degrease the new chain wash it well with soapy water dry it off and lube it with pro gold and you'll be flying.;)

Chain alone was not enough, was jumping today on the commute in the middle of the cassette and the small ring, although the drive train seemed to feel noticable lighter and responsive.

Changed the cassette, and boy is it gliding nicely now. Still dont like the look of the big chainring, but will leave that for another day.

Now to service the headset as thats a bit stiff....

I didnt, seems a bit of a controversial point that one for a new chain:

Thats a controversial point there alright! I don't bother for the first 100k but after that its back to weekly oiling-degreasing.

the stuff thats on the new chain is just a wax to keep it from rusting.
really is best to degrease it then wash it in soapy hot water dry it off and lube every link .its a job worth doing and it only takes 10 minutes. guaranteed you will feel the difference.;)
but listen its your chain you can leave it if you want just saying.;)

We had a discussion recently about the lubricant that comes with the chain.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=77190352&postcount=3

There are quite a few people who rate it an excellent lubricant, good for several hundred km, provided it doesn't rain. Therefore, on the balance of probability, you'll have to lube not long after installing the chain.

Was looking at the same problem myself recently.
Was looking for a decent price for a replacement FSA chainring, that wasn't the same price as the whole crankset.
CRC were prices were nuts, but Bike24 have some decent prices for chainrings.

If anyone can suggest any other places to look for replacement chainrings?

Well FSL, can you share some more of that wisdom please??
I need to replace the large ring on SRAM Force crank. How do i figure out which of the rings on bike24 or CRC are compatible?
    Cheers,
    P

but as far as i know all TA/and stronglight are compatable with all cranksets. but check the numbers on the inside on the big ring .
sorry about that buddy but if all else fails just ask crc they will put you right;)

I replaced my chain a few weeks ago, admittedly it had gone beyond it:o. Ended up chainging the cassette and then the 50t and 39t (BBB) chainrings on the front as well. They were showing the classic 'shark tooth' pattern. It's a commuting bike, and weekend spins as well, so getting a good number of km's a week. Lesson learned, I'll be keeping my chain lubed and replaced regularly. As for the lube that comes on the chain., I wasn't convinced - gave it a quick wipe and used my regular muc-off. Now running lovely and skip free.
