New Company... Business Name?

    My friend and I want to incorporate a company, OurCompany Limited. Do we register the business name OurCompany first?

    Well if you want the business name to belong to the company, you'll have to incorporate the company first, then register the business name with the Ltd Co. as the owner of the business name.

    If you register the business name first, then given that the company doesn't exist yet, you'd have to register the business name to one or both of you as individual(s).

    If you call the company OurCompany Ltd and trade as OurCompany Ltd you don't need to register a business name.

    You only need to register a business name if the Company trades under a different name. In which case the Company should come first.
