Garmin Edge 500 won't power on

I'm annoyed this morning. Was looking forward to wandering off at 09:00 for several hours around north county Dublin. Edge 500 was charged. I took the bike out the door, swung the leg over, hit the power button on the Edge 500 and...nothing.

The various resets described online don't do anything. If I plug the charger in, it comes to life and says that it's 100% charged. If I plug it into my laptop, it's recognised and I could upload activities, etc. But as soon as the cable is unplugged, it's back to the blank screen and nothing.

I got this as a Christmas present and since I only got my bike at the end of January, it's only been used eight or nine times. Was last using it for a quick 12 mile spin on Friday afternoon and it was grand. Garmin support appears to be closed until Monday morning.

    Any ideas?

maybe if you leave it plugged in for a full 24 hours it would kickstart the battery again

Thanks, I'll give that a try now. I've nothing to lose as Garmin support aren't going to hear about this before tomorrow morning.

not really I'm afraid ... Mine generally won't power on either, but, if I connect to a computer or a power source, it powers up ..... and stays on!! I have got away with not having to carry a charger in my saddle bag so far ... Mine's a few years old and don't want to do without to for a few weeks so never sent to Garmin Support ... I recommend getting yours replaced as before you know it, you won't want to go out without one...

Thanks all, the overnight charge didn't help. Called Garmin and they gave an RMA. New/refurbished one arrived in the post a week later and it's been working since.

My edge 500 has packed in since early last week. I logged a Repair Request via garmin.com. They were a little slow to respond so I rang them this morning. I now have the RMA number and Im sending the unit back today.

Hopefully it wont take too long to get a return unit but Im happy with their service. But, if you want a quick response nothing beats a good 'ol phone call :)
