Hi. Just wanted an outside opinion on this. I am 31 and have always worked for the family business.Lately I find that my self confidence is considerably suffering as a result of this.In the past I have tried to seek employment elsewhere and so far have been unsuccessful.due to the lack of work out there and still working in the family business I feel I cant stand on my own two feet.I find myself constantly comparing myself to careers that people my age have.
does any one have opinions on people who go and work for the family business instead of say 'making their own career'?

I wouldn't think less of anyone for working for their family business. If anything I'd think favorably on it - helping to build and continue something your parents probably started, that sorta thing.

Is the business an area you are are genuinely interested in or is it something you kinda fell into? What type of role do you have in it? Do you have much responsibility/say in things? I'm getting the impression it might a small business and maybe feel like your input isn't that great?

Could you maybe take a greater role in trying to drive the business forward...could you do a business courses or something to learn new skills which you could then apply to it?

Sounds like you just stuck in a bit of a rut...I think if you try making the business succeed and grow more than it has been - and identify clear steps you can take to make this happen - your goal so to speak, you might feel more fulfilled.

    Hope that helps :)
