Have a guess at what sort of service my car needs

Ok folks as the title says, I'd be grateful if some of the more knowledgeable folks out there could have a stab at what might need to be done on my car

    Details
2006 Ford Focus 1.4 Lx (Petrol)
    56874km
    Bought in December
No service history (elderly man died and they can't find book, so it may have fsh)
    2 owners before me
I'd guess it might have had at most 2 services in its life, but thats just a guess

Getting about 31mpg which I believe is a bit low for the model.

    Any and all thoughts appreciated.

A full service will do it. Oil, plugs, filters. Unless there's something seriously amiss, which is unlikely, a good service will improve mpg as well. €200 should more than cover it, unless you can do it yourself.

Would be no harm looking at the year of manufacture on the tyres to see when they were made it's stamped on the side, will look something like 2307, that means made in 23rd week of 2007. If the are 5 years old they should be replaced regardless of thread depth. Also check them for cracks as car could have been layed up for months after his death with improperly inflated tyres.

Full service with a brake fluid change, a pollen filter and maybe wipers.
Depending on how it was driven it might need a set of front brake pads.

Back left tyre badly cracked, back right cracked but not badly. Will definitely replace them and possible front two also.

Ordered rear wiper arm and blade, extended reach. Looking into new front wiper blades costs. Considering ordering service kit parts from fordparts.co.uk or something like that. Happy to do everything but oil and filter change, not convinced I'd do the filter right especially.

Easier than doing the plugs. Screws off and on. Use the tool to loosen it and tighten it with your hand. The bung is a 13mm, just take it out and oil will follow.

Then I must be missing something when thinking about doing the plugs?!
Does the car need to be up or could i squeeze under it? Don't have axle stands and not buying them

Ah yeah you'll need axle stands and a jack. get someone else to do it and give the car a full check over.

6 years old and only two services, I'd be tempted to use an oil flush if what's in there is as black as the night.

Why did you buy it? Was it really, really cheap?

2 services in nearly 6 years

I get panicy if I leave my car go more than 15 months.

might want to change the coolant as well. been six years think its recommended after five years.

I wouldnt say hes the only one whos bought a car without service history.. alot of people wouldn`t care (only those who aren`t looking at the motors thread)

He said he guess its had 2 services in six years.. It might have had none, or it might of had six.

Exactly, I've no idea how many it's had. Got it prertty cheap and a very good mechanic friend said its mechanically sound. Oil is in between fresh and black colour.

There might be nothing wrong with that really. As far as I remember the oil change interval on a focus is something like every 30k km.

If you are doing low mileage then at least an oil and filter change should be done based on time not mileage. If my father was to get his car serviced by mileage intervals rather than time intervals then he would only get his car serviced every 6 years or so.

This is why I hate looking at low mileage cars with very little evidence of service history. Having the same oil sitting in the engine for 3 years, etc is just madness.
