    Which would you start first.
Does breaking bad really live up to the hype?

I enjoy Boardwalk Empire (Although I do find it a bit overrated) but nothing can beat the sheer brilliance of Breaking Bad. Some amazing character development over the years in breaking bad. So, ya it does live up to the hype.

Both are very good shows. I have followed Breaking Bad from the start and I would highly recommend it. Boardwalk is excellent aswell but I would start with Breaking Bad. Bryan Cranston is excellent in it.

Breaking Bad contains such a potent, dense amount of quality, you'll just drop there drooling after watching it. It's unspeakable the amount of talent that goes into making that show, beyond all known human measurement.

Too true for a long time in tv history it appears that characters actually didn't really develop!
Although Oz is a strong contendor

I think both are good , but i personally feel boardwalk empire it can really suck you into that era and feel as if you are also apart of it

Bwalk empire is only 2 seasons aswell so can catch up easily on it

    Breaking Bad most definitely.

    Just at
the end of series 3 and walt has turned into a serious badass. Especially running over those 2 drug dealers.

i odnt think there should b another season , i like the way its finished .... theres a degree of uncertainly

dont like when shows do 1 more season to reveal all there secrets , ruins the entire series ........ like what happened in prison break and lost

Easy choice, BB by some distance. You'll know from first episode if you like it.

Boardwalk was good in the first season but IMO dropped off in the second.

What about when Hank finds out? What about when Jesse finds out what he's done?

Two massive plot points that need to be addressed. I'd be pissed off if it ended with the last series.

well lads ill go against the grain here and say watch boardwalk first, so that you know you have a better show to look forward to when your finnished boardwalk,

and unless you watch things really fast you should catch up with breaking bad about the time season 5 starts, you dont wanna be waiting 3 or 4 months for more BB

    save the best for last:)

You've got 2 great shows to watch.....why not watch both simultaneously? It'll mean that you wont overload on either!!

If it was me I'd watch both shows as they're both brilliant maybe an episode of each a week at least then you get to watch both programmes and get better value of the two programmes i.e you wont fly through each them like I did which I felt kinda put me off both shows as I was watching an episode everyday (In college, plenty of time on my hands.) as a result they had become to feel very mundane .

breaking bad, its so much more enjoyable than boardwalk

If your gonna watch both, watch boardwalk empire first, it will feel unfulfilling if you watch it after breaking bad. Breaking bad is by far the better show.

Both are great shows but definitely Breaking Bad! Along with Game of Thrones it's the best TV show out at the moment

Having just finished the first season of BE, I am of the firm opinion that BB is not fit to lace Jimmy Darmody's boots. It towers over any season of BB. We'll see if it can maintain its quality like BB did (until the last season.)

This is the opinion of a BB admirer but not a fanatic as so many unfortunately are.

Season 1 of boardwalk empire is good but after that its not great. I got bored with the current series and stopped watching it a while back. Ill probably go back to it at some stage to finish it off but its pretty poor imo.

Actually, while Breaking Bad is one of my favourite shows ever, it's one of those shows that gathers pace. I doubt there's many people who thought it was the best show ever after a few episodes; personally I wasn't even overly hooked after the entire first season or two but was a massive fan by the end.

Boardwalk on the other hand, was incredible from the get go. If I had to chose between them, I would probably choose it over Breaking Bad. I think to a large degree though, it just depends on your interests and what appeals to you.

They are totally different shows so it's difficult to give a straight recommendation knowing nothing about the person who's asking the question.

As with most shows, Boardwalk waned towards the end - seasons 1, 2 and 3 were absolutely stellar, seasons 4 and 5 less so, though still very good - whereas Breaking Bad went against the grain by improving season on season until it delivered possibly the best final few episodes in TV history.

I consider both shows amongst the greatest ever.

I dunno.. I actually agree with your point about BB taking a while to get into/find it's feet but when it does it really grabs you - Boardwalk was better that way I think (though both are nowhere near as good at this as The Shield which grabs you from the first episode!)

The problem with Boardwalk I think was that it peaked too soon with season 3 (and Gyp Rosetti) being the highlight. After that it loses its way I think and season 5 was very disappointing I thought.

BB on the other hand only gets better as it goes on and while they're very different shows and Boardwalk IS very good at times, BB would edge it fairly easily I think .. but The Shield still trumps both IMO (and yes, I've started on The Wire too) :)
