    Hey all,

Im a bit out of the loop with all the latest graphics cards etc but have been on the hunt for a proper gaming laptop. My gaming doesnt be as much as it used to but after 4 years I think tis time to upgrade my Gateway FX (while it still can play modern enough games up to a medium settings) a proper laptop is needed as I have alot of new games to catch up on

    I was looking at either
    http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Xplorer_X8-8500_Notebook/
    or
    http://www.cyberpowersystem.co.uk/system/Xplorer_X7-3D_Gaming_Notebook/

Has anyone had any experiences with any systems from above or would going with Alienware and one of their options be a better choice? Im looking to keep to a minimum of a 17"? I know they seem pricey for a laptop but this would be my desktop too and once maintained they can last a while.

    Thanks for any help

First does it have to be a laptop, desktop out of the question?

Second, what games do you play and at what settings do you want to play them.

    Third whats your budget?

Has to be a laptop, no space for a desktop and just prefer laptops even for gaming (im an odd one like that!)

Will be everything from SC2, Dead Island, Skyrim, Battlefield, COD, Fallout etc but all on the high end of the graphics settings (can play them on medium at the moment at a slower pace) so may aswell go all out.

Ideally between 1000-1500E but depending on the spec, if its a worth the difference I will go a little higher. May seem a bit mad but ive gotten over 4 years from the Gateway (and counting) just a bit of cleaning and thermal paste here and there.

Well unless you really like the looks of the Alienware or the Clevo's I really cant recommend them. They're fine machine's but your paying a premium on name and looks. MSI and Asus have pretty much the same spec's for cheaper, if you want to go real cheap there's even Medion to consider.

Cheapest alienware at 17'' is 1500 euro, the cheaper of those two clevos is 1600.

Just as an idea of how cheap you can go this medion has a GTX570m,full HD matte display and i7 for about 1200.
There's also a version on the site with a 160GB SSD for about 1600. Some people complain of poor build on Medion's but as you say if you take care of them, they'll last.

So as you can imagine Asus and MSI will come somewhere inbetween the medion and the Alienwares/Clevos.

Sites you can check are Komplett, savonlaptops. If you don't mind german layout keyboards there's computeruniverse and hardwareversand.

I have the Alienware m17x and tbh I'd recommend spending that extra 300 or so.
    A few reasons,
Excellent cooling systems... We all know how all those other laptops mentioned heat up like crazy when you're playing.
    Keyboard proportioned for gaming.
Good chance you'd be able to upgrade the gpu(s) for very cheap in a few years, or stick in another hdd.
    Proper sound.
    Overclockability
Build quality is tougher and can take that bit of a hammering that it might have to take if you're gaming on it.
    Dual audio out
Multiple VGA/Dvi/hdmi outs if you feel like playing on a bigger screen

The MSI might have similar specs on paper but if you're serious about gaming on a laptop IMO you're best off with an actual gaming laptop.

MSI or Asus gaming laptops have all the above as well. The extra price on Alienwares is for the design, name, and lights. Which can be worth it for some, I've even been tempted from time to time.

    They seem like good value.

I have been looking at Asus laptops on computeruniverse, but they seem more expensive than the above. I wonder what the catch is.

EDIT: It seems there's no warranty if you're outside the U.K. Hmm

LOL, why in the blue jaysus would you buy an Alienware, it is a fancy looking dell which uses cheap components, they arent like the old alienwares which used actual brand name parts.

Go for the Asus or Msi.
