Just wondering if anyone can recommend any pubs/coffee houses near the Grand Canal? Somewhere where someone might like to read or something and have a drink on their own?

Nearly sure there is a coffee house near the theatre.
Could get a coffee and a read in the maldron hotel across the road

Wall and Keogh Tea Rooms in Rathmines looks like a fairly chilled out spot.. They have sourced hundreds of different teas from around the World afaik.. I'm guessing they do coffee as well.

Keep meaning to have a wander down some day myself..

Probably a bit late but Ocean Bar is a nice spot to hang out it. Just across the GC basin from the theatre.

If you have thick glasses, an ipad and a waistcoat, you could try 3fe on the corner of grand canal street/macken street. Supposed to be really nice coffee.
If the weather is nice, sit outside the Schoolhouse.
If you want a patch of grass that's not the canal bank, the triangle shaped park on Wilton Terrace is nice.

Any particular part of grand canal? Its a long canal. Barge is a good city centre spot in nice weather or all the places around the dock . Go onto to restaurant/pub on the boat outside convention centre if u want to be by the water.
