    Hi all,

Just hoping some of you could point me in the right direction.

Played alot of golf when I was younger, was decent I think. I've recently got back into it and looking to get myself a decent set of clubs, not nessecarily cheap but a nice set that will help me get back into "the swing of things". Have checked out a few of the websites listed here, but it's hard to tell which is a nice set from browsing online.

Secondly, I'm living in Dundrum, and looking to join a club. Somewhere relatively close, again looking for somewhere reasonably priced and has a good social aspect to it and can provide good lessons.

I know I'm asking a lot here but any advice greatly appreciated,

    Thanks

It is a great time to get back into the game, lots of golf clubs looking for new members. Clubs on or within the M50, even with reduced entrance fees are still pricey enough, but you won't have to travel too far to find a good deal, unlike those of us who took up the game during the boom. Have a look at the www.gui.ie website for memberships.

As far as buying clubs, I'd always advise trying before you buy. Many golf ranges have shops that'll let you try out some demo clubs, or even some second-hand clubs. You'll soon figure out what works for you, and what doesn't. Once you know what you want, check online for prices.

    Thanks for that Diego.

Mcguirks are doing a doing a thing now where you can rent a new set of clubs for i think 50 quid for a week. Great way to try out a set and they have a lot of options. Lots of second hand stuff around and anything from the last 4 years driver and irons will be good.

As Diego says, you have picked a great time to get back into golf - it has never been cheaper.

The link to the GUI website is good - but clubs are prepared to do deals - so don't be frightened by the figures quoted on the website!

A lot of clubs are experiencing many members taking 'leave of absence', so they are seeing a serious fall in revenue, accordingly they are only too delighted to take in new members

Also, consider supporting a local club professional - many of them will give you set to play a practice round

Good look & stay on the fairway
