2006 jajuar x type, blowing black smoke in medium to high revs. Engine sluggish at 50/60mph and think it's increased fuel usage though could be just price increase :) Any idea what could be wrong?

If its a 2 litre diesel you could be looking at a clogged EGR valve.

Its an mixture issue, most likely a split/broken vacume pipe or intake pipe etc.

As above, the ford 2.0d is prone to EGR failure as well.

A quick visual check for split or disconnected hoses would be an easier place to start.

Spot on advice, turns out the pipe between egr and turbo intercooler was split. Pipe changed and egr cleaned, car is running a 100 times better and no smoke :D
