I have an out of contract 3Gs but want to upgrade to a 4s (will have to switch network for this) but considering it's now almost March, would I be mad to tie myself into a 2 yr contract when things could change again in the next 6 months or so......

I'm itching to get a new phone now, and at the end of the day, there's ALWAYS going to be something newer coming out.......

I'd hold off if I were you, the 3GS is still a decent enough phone, you will be pissed off for at least 18months if you like into a 24month contract now
Looking at macrumors it's looking like a June launch for a new phone from apple.
