Maybe I'm mad, but I'd be asking on the Linux forum?

Of course you could install Win7 on it.
But why would you want to ?
After over two years of running Ubuntu Linux completely hassle free on my laptop ( read no crashes, no viruses, no virus scans, no malware scans etc) I would highly recommend just sticking with the Linux.
    Its also 100% free.

Libreoffice will give you most of the functionality of Word. Draw backs would be if you had some esoteric piece of software you needed to run that only ran on Windows

System specification not meeting minimum requirements, lack of disk space, lack of funds to purchase licence... Loads of reasons really :-)
