Have to pick a new laptop for work:

Lenovo Thinkpad X220 or Lenovo Thinkpad L420

I know the X220 is smaller, 12" but less powerful than the L420.

    Any suggestions/advice?

it depends on your needs really.

if you're using it for work then the L420 is going to be a better with a bigger screen if nothing else, unless you are on the road a lot, in which case the X220 is going to be a pound and a half lighter and the battery life will be better, so that might e the tipping point for you if you are going to be away from a power socket on a regular basis.

I have a T410 myself, but the added weight is definitely only a minor factor when considering the bigger screen and the fact that all i do is carry it from my car to the office every day. if i was travelling a long way with it, i'd probably want something a little lighter, although i am thinking of cycling into work, so watch this space for me to be giving out about the size of it in a few weeks!

everything is a compromise, so just decide what is important to you and pick based on that. it might even help to write your own pro's and con's list based on your specific wants and needs.

good luck with it, they're both solid laptops. :)
