Good car, reliable jap built machine, it'll be a pure GUZZLER of petrol all the same.

They have their fans and are often recommended over on the main motors forum, will be farly heavy on petrol though.

Maintenance costs probably not an issue, but a petrol engined version? I'd say its 2K overpriced TBH. The 3K a year City commuters seem to be the only buyers at the moment.

I test drove that car last Saturday, it only got the NCT on Monday. It looked really clean and straight. It has a great service history, book is stamped, mostly with the main subaru dealers in waterford. Its had two owners sinced new.The second owners details are written in the service book. It even had every tax disc it ever had inside glove box. It was parked out front and open when I got to the garage so I had a good look around it and through the service book.

I can tell you they asked me €4800 for it but after driving it and taking into account the petrol consumption I wouldnt pay any more than 3k. Its non-turbo and I believe the turbo version gives much better performance for basically the same fuel usage and it didnt blow me away on the test drive.

The drivers seat is wore on the side which looks bad, radio didnt work and although very clean the interior didnt nothing for me, its very beige. The body work is very staight and its had a polish but there were alot of small scraps and dents in the centre of the back bumper which lead me to believe it had a tow bar at some stage. Not that a tow bar would bother me as I would stick it on it myself but if it had a tow bar I would sooner it had been left on as its like someone is trying to hide something.

I did a bit of research regarding service, well I ask a good indie mechanic and he said general service wouldnt be to bad but if anything else needs doing it would be expensive, he personally didnt like working on them, engine bay is pretty packed and then it has the awd system.

No probs, I dont know how long the garage have had it, but petrol drinker at that age will be a tough sell so they may do something but at the moment I couldnt see them dropping to 3k since they got the new NCT at the start of the week, but you could try them. If you are looking for something special that you want to keep for a while then I dont think this car is special.
