Question re Sky Instalation

I'm getting sky installed and I am wondering do I need to tell them in advance that I want them to install the satellite dish on the chimney? The reason I'm asking is a few other people on my road have got it installed and its installed on their wall near a window.

    Thanks in advance

    I think so.

Years ago when I got a Sky dish installed it was a local installer that did it and attached it to the chimney.

Subsequently I was getting Sky+ and then Multiroom, the 'offical' Sky installer wouldn't go on the roof because of health & safety. Luckily the next Sky engineer that came used to work with a local installer and had no problem in doing it. But he did tell me to keep it quiet!

They might do it but it all depends on how safe it is.

Would a local installer do it (if it was safe)?

I just looked around my estate and I can see the everyone with on one side of the street has the dish on their chimneys and everyone on my side of the street has it on their back walls. I don't want to go down the route of a local installer as Sky are doing the install for free.

The standard reply from Sky now is not to attach to the chimney on H & S grounds. You might be lucky & get an installer as in Paul's scenario. If the dish moves in high winds, you will have more problems. If at all possible get the dish placed on a wall.

I would guess those with dishes on the chimney are the ones who would have to have the dish at the front of the house

Sky wont go on the chimney

I wouldn't want some random Sky installer going anywhere near my chimney or roof anyway.

    Hi d max,

Not everybody with a dish is a Sky customer.
The only reason sky do a free install is because they supply a monthly subscription service, I think you sign up for 12 months.

Sky wont go on the chimney[/QUOTE]

Sky would hardly stand on their tip toes to put up a dish- too dangerous!

If everyone on your side of the street has their dishes on the back walls then you can take it for granted that yours will be on the back wall too. It's also easier to get at if you need to do anything with it in the future such as add a fta box or realign it.

Cool thanks for the replies. Rang Sky and they said the chimney install would have to be done by another company as a result of their Health and Safety policy.

Op, you'll regret the chimney install in a couple of years when the dish starts to corrode, and looses alignment.
Have it wall mounted where its accessible and sheltered from the elements.

I install Sky and if at all possible I avoid roof work if I can as it involves a lot more risk, if it's on a wall it's very accessible if there is any problems or for maintenance in the future, If we can't get it on a wall we have Poles that lift the dish above roof height, Roof work can be done but it all depends on the engineer you have call out to you. Hope this helps
