Seaman on 3DS....You're joking, right?

...Apparently not, according to the latest reports, the Seaman Virtual Pet (which made a sensation in Japan when originally released on Dreamcast) will be coming to 3DS

Seaman will be revived on the 3DS, according to a report at the online edition of Nikkei.

In a feature about Nintendo, Nikkei mentions a plan from the company to revive other publisher's titles on the 3DS as part of a strategy to bring new strong titles to the system. The paper mentions Seaman as an example of this, but does not provide specifics.

So, laughable as it is, does this mean a more interesting thing...could we see Dreamcast titles on the 3DS E Shop?

As an avid player of DOA Dimensions showcase mode, I've already seen seaman on my 3ds and its not pretty.
(come on, if I hadn't made that pun the next poster would have)
Would now be a good time to scream Shenmue?

I doubt it, you only really get games from old consoles that are capable of hardware emulation. I don't think the Wii or 3DS are powerful enough to emulate a Dreamcast. THe 360 and PS3 probably are though.

I'd say it only made it onto 3DS because its a pet simulation. I couldn't see the 3DS handling more intensively graphical Dreamcast games either.

It's not about emulation, it's about more ports.
Personally, I think if they keep porting games to the 3DS they'll kill it.

Ports are not the problem. Its the devs who think they can make a quick buck off us gamers thats the real problem. Porting anything from psp or ds to 3ds without even upgrading it should be illegal.
Case in point, Blazblue Continuum Shift II. Don't get me wrong i love it, its a great game. The only problem is that it's a psp game with the worst tacked on 3D i have ever seen, transplanted from a psp umd to 3ds card without a single thought that the 3DS is not a PSP and i can't even talk about it. Its a disgraceful act from the development team, which unfortunatly seems to be commonplace in this industry.

So anyway lazy ports = bad
    Good ports = good?

I agree with Nollog, the 3DS is it's own console, it's leaning too heavily on games from other systems - be they retro or otherwise.

I get sadfaced when I see Nintendo fans say "we want majora's mask 3d!".
If they were anyone else, they'd be saying "we want a new zelda for 3ds".

Are Nintendo's old games so good that people don't want them to do any new ones?

A lot of them are brilliant yes, but they should in no way take precedence over newer ones. It reeks of cash cow.

We already know they are working on a new Zelda for the 3ds, but it's more that after making OoT, it would take so little effort/time to just use the resources they used for that to port Majora's Mask! I personally would love to see that, as Majora's Mask is my favourite Zelda game. (Though Skyward Sword is now closed second!)

Yep, that's about it. It's possible to port a game while also making a new one. Obviously if it's one or the other, than new one all the way - but having both really is the best option.

Majora's Mask is one game I've never played, so I'll be picking up a 3DS port if it comes out.

As for the Op and Seaman on the 3DS..Mind = Blown.

I'd rather see them release a translated version of Segagaga (and think it would do really well), but this'll more than do for the moment.

I don't think there's any resources they could re-use from the OoT port.
It was re-made by an Australian company, not emulated or anything.

People don't buy consoles for ports and remakes, they buy them for new content.
All these ports and remakes being talked up like they're good news or a big deal is sad.
Then you have stupid announcements like Pokémon Black/White Two for the DS, rather than the 3DS.

Well it'd most likely be done by the same studio. And a lot of the character models, most of the textures and the engine could all be re-used, they would not have to be redone from scratch, just built upon the same way as the original MM re-used assets from OoT.

I'm confused...you're complaining about ports + remakes...but then complaining that they didn't basically port the Pokemon Black/White engine to 3DS instead of leaving it on DS for the sequels?...

I'm confused. Why would a sequel to b/w have to use the same engine?

Because Gamefreak have two teams, one for the main series and the other for remakes...(so far anyway)

This is obviously the remake team while the main team is making a new engine (takes time :pac:) for 3DS. :)

I'm confused. Why would a sequel to b/w have to use the same engine when on a new console, which you later said would need to have a new engine written for it?

Because the engine isn't ready yet and so the 3DS exclusive titles won't start appearing for another year or so. :pac:

    I don't follow you then.
How is not having a game equal to me saying I want a new DS game?
