    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has opinions on the Ikea store in Dublin, is it easy to navigate, what is the customer service like and store layout, queue lengths, general strengths and weaknesses etc?

    Thanks!

I had my first visit there recently and yes it's all very easy. Having said that I hated the whole experience and won't be in a hurry back.

Easy to navigate (1 way walking system) everything is well laid out and individualy priced.

Resturant is cheap and food is ok (not bad in fact).

Checkouts downstairs can be fustrating and take time to get through though.

Good parking and lots of loading bays aswell.

Avoid Saturdays and Sundays,as its mad busy with families and kids.

The Ikea in Belfast is quite a bit cheaper: if you have a few things to get, it may be worth your while going up there. I sometimes make the journey from Dublin to Belfast, its a great road now.

Add in the cost of fuel, food and then time traveling up and down, and I can bet you you wont save very much at all.

We've just bought a kitchen from Ikea Dublin and I can't recommend them highly enough. The quality was far superior to that in the same price range in other places and the customer service is second to none. We've also bought furniture and a few bits and pieces over the years and I can't fault anything.

I find some prices are better in Dublin than Belfast, but I have not carried out a survey. You really have to check.

Ideally go with someone who has already been there but if you have to go by yourself, the format is that you wander around the showroom on the first floor and you note down the product code of any piece of furniture you want to buy and it's stock location downstairs.

If you don't look out for shortcuts, you will be brought on a grand tour and you'll have to walk through every department meaning that you will pass through display sections showing kit for adult bedrooms, kids bedrooms, kitchens, home offices, living rooms etc. etc. If you don't fancy this trek, watch the overhead signs showing shortcuts, you basically have to barge through closed doors to take a short cut to avoid going through sections that you're not interested in.

When you go downstairs, you first wander through the area where they display smaller household items not in flatpacks like china, glasses, pillows etc. Then you arrive in the warehouse section where you grab whatever flatpacks you want - you'll need to have a trolley at this stage. Then you push the trolley to the checkout where you can either let a member of staff scan like in a supermarket, or (only if paying by CC) you can do a self-scan, there are floor walkers there to show you how to do it.

They provide pieces of paper and pencils in a rack downstairs where you come in from the car park, bring a biro. The restaurant is on the first floor, you can eat as soon as you arrive. Food is basic canteen nosh, house special is Swedish meataballs. It's all good quality and relatively cheap.

I am onto Ikea customer service phone number at the moment - the automated service says they are experiencing delays of up to 45minutes - I am now 20 minutes holding with not a sign of a person to speak to.
I decided to log onto my computer and email them (whilst still on hold) and just got an automated reply saying 'Thank you for your customer service query. We will be in contact with you within the next 12 days'.

    12 DAYS?
    Seriously.
    To answer an email????

Not an ikea rant necessarily as I love the place, but it's my first time dealing with their customer service.

    Ridiculous!
