Mac does not identify itself on LAN

The screenshot might explain it best.

    6QAAA.png

In the Devices on LAN section any device connected to the router displays it's local IP address, MAC address and whatever name the device has e.g. Deepblue's PC, DeepBlue's laptop etc.

However in the name section the Mac doesn't display the name, only the local IP address.
This doesn't cause any problems surfing the web but I can't port-forward the mac and wonder if this is a symptom of why it can't be port-forwarded.

This only started after the Mac was upgraded (clean install) from Tiger to Snow Leopard.

    Any ideas?

Not some what's causing that quirk but if you assign the Mac a static IP address then port forwarding shouldn't be a problem.

I assign a static nat to 192.168.1.2 (the Mac) and then forward a port.
However when I check the forwarded port on http://canyousee.org it times out.

Hmmm, is there something quirky about those Netopia routers in that you also have to mess with the firewall 'level' or some nonsense like that? Make sure the OS X Firewall is allowing incoming connections for that app/program too.

I think when you forward a port you need to set the firewall setting to low.
