I did something, I'm not sure what, and now my taskbar is double height.

So, the quick launch items are on the upper level, and the open program icons are on the lower level, instead of being next to the quick launch items, like they ususally are.

How can I restore the single level taskbar?

    Thanks.

    D.

    1. Right click on it - if Lock the Taskbar is checked - uncheck it.
    2. Hover your cursor just over the top edge until it changes to a verticle double arrow - just hold down your left mouse key and drag smaller.
    3. Right click again and check that Lock the Taskbar

    Hope this works.

Move your cursor to hover over the upper edge of the taskbar, and it should change to a double-headed arrow (one pointing up, one pointing down). When you see this, hold the left mouse button down and drag down until you see the normal single-height taskbar layout, then release.

    Cheers guys.

Task manager is unlocked and dragging the taskbar down was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately, even though there is nothing in the lower task bar, I can't drag down the upper one to make the lower one disappear. The *entiire* taskbar disappears! - no matter how gently I try it. Then I can't drag just the upper bar back up. Both appear again.

    Very odd.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks.

have you changed the icon display size? sometimes you can have them as small or medium or larger, if they are displaying larger then the taskbar will adjust to that it can accomodate them

Just wondering - is your view set to Small or Large Icons?

Again right click > View > Small Icons

See the dotted lines on the taskbar (left and right - when taskbar is unlocked only) - drag one of them to the upper line. Now drag the top of the taskbar down to single height.

    Guys,

    One last question.....

The button in the taskbar that I click to take me straight to the Desktop underneath the open windows, has disappeared.

How do I create another one?

    Thanks.

Make sure your Quick Launch toolbar is visible and then do this:
