Q about bike shoes

Hi Guys, A friend will loan me a Trek 1000 road bike for an upcoming race. But we dont know what type of shoes are needed for it. Can anyone help? Are they all standard type things? Its only for one race so id like to keep the costs down if possible! Thank you

The bike model doesn't really help. You need to find out what sort of pedals are on it. Or you could find out what shoes/cleats (the things that screw into the bottom of the shoes and slot into the pedals) your friend is using.
