Hi folks , I'm looking for places to do a fashion style shoot and was wondering if
anyone knows if the botanic gardens allows shoots, or has anyone done one there ?
It's not commercial, just personal (I'm studying photography at the moment ) :)

for a fashion shoot, they may seek permission. i'm fairly sure you can do wedding photos there without seeking permission, though, so i don't think you'll have much trouble.

I'm almost sure you would need permission. As far as I'm aware every OPW site needs to give permission for any shoot wedding or otherwise. Best thing to do is ring them. GL with the shoot.

All OPW site require permission for extensive shoots, especially if there's any big equipment or if its likely to disturb public access. They're usually fairly lax though, you shouldn't have much trouble getting permission.

I have heard for doing fashion shoots/weddings you have to have written permission and also hold PL insurance.

To be honest, if you have a small team and plan on using natural light, I'd say just chance your arm and go for it.

From my own experience, these parks can be a bit of a nightmare to deal with when you do ask for permission (I have plenty of emails to prove it). God help you if you ever ask for permission to shoot in the grounds of the IMMA, they were just downright rude to me. Phoenix Park crowd weren't very helpful either.

As kjt said, most places will want to see proof of insurance, and they usually require at least 4 weeks notice.

    Best of luck with it.

Never had any problems dealing with them, it would serve you well for the future to get permission (good practice) Mention its for college too

Whenever I've dealt with OPW, i just spoke to the person/people working there at the time. Generally they don't care, so long as you won't have massive lighting rigs or such million-euro pieces of equipment that could pose a danger.

I emailed them once before and never got a reply.

I would highly recommend asking for permission. As borderfox says its good practice and a necessity if anything were to go wrong! The only stipulation that I'v come across in working at OPW sites is that they do not want their "site" (in this case the botanics) recognizable in publication (unless fully credited etc), and as its for college I don't foresee you having any problems.

As a side note, because its for a college assignment, you should be covered under the college insurance so its worth to mention that also. Again GL with the shoot and lets us know how you fare.

Sorry for the late reply back, thanks for all the advice folks :) I guess I'll give them a call and see where things go from there .
It's not going to be a big shoot at all , couple of girls , no lights , so hopefully it won't be too much of a problem !
