Cork-Dublin at weekends

I'm starting a job in Cork in a couple of weeks, however I'll have to commute to Dublin at weekends to spend time with the better half. Don't have a car so my options for travelling are limited to:

    1) Bus eireann/Aircoach - are these buses busy enough going from cork on a friday and Dublin on a sunday that the services are essentially non-stop? I wouldn't be a fan of sitting on the bus for 4 hours.

    2) Iarnrod eireann - expensive unless I'm lucky enough to nab a few 10euro fares.

    3) Carpooling - any members know of anyone who drives from cork on a friday and returns on a Sunday and may be willing to split petrol costs.

Anyways, I'd be grateful for any advice, thanks!

Well if you are going to be going up and down every weekend consistently, then if you plan ahead, you can buy tickets for Irish Rail for 4 weeks in advance and usually get the €10 tickets.

Tickets appear on the Irish Rail site 28 days in advance. I'd recommend setting a reminder for every Tuesday, then you can get another 10% off with the below thread and book the tickets for 4 weeks in advance:

Also yes I believe at peak times on Bus Eireann they usually run non stop services, but no guarantees.

B/E used to run 2 bus's at the same time during peak times, one was non stop and the other stopped at every town on the route. Whether thats still the case I don't know.

The 1800 service from Parnell Place to Dublin on Feb 10th was helped out by a direct* service...I know this as I was the direct* bus. Both buses full, the normal SP service full by Urlingford.

*I say direct...it used the motorway until Urlingford and then carried on in normal service on the old N7 through Durrow and Abbeyleix etc...so not exactly direct..arrived in Busaras at 2140.
