    Hey guys

I'm after buying a new car and I want to transfer my current tax on to the new car. Is it possible to do this?

On the motor tax website I can't see any way of doing it. I can see that I need to get a PIN to tax a new car but it does not mention transferring tax from one car to another.

Sorry I should have mentioned that my old car would have been exempt from tax and so in reality I need to cancel one exemption and transfer the exemption to the new car to get the tax disc. Can I do this online or do I need to ring the tax office?

Usually you would need form 100A to tax a car you've recently put into your name, and there is no transferring a tax disc to another car. In your case I think you would cancel your previous tax disc, but you would need to contact the tax office about transferring the exempt status to another car, I've not come across this before.

I bought a car once with an Expempt Tax disc on it (still 6 months left on it) asked the garage must i change that disc they said no. The car is taxed so i just renew as normally when the renewal date comes around. Never had an issue with it either.

As for transfering your disc i would reckon that you would go to tax your new car as normal (using your exemption). Its the car thats taxed not the person driving it. Ive seen no obvious restriction on taxing a car while your previous one is still taxed, surely the owness isnt on you there but the new owner of your previous car. So off down to the Motor tax office with your logbook of your current car.
