    I have a 17hmr . I just ordered a bushnell dusk Dawk 6-24x40. I will be zeroing at 100 yards.
What affect will adjusting the zoom have while shooting out in the field ie will it change the zero ?

Wont change zero at all so no worries there lad! I used to have mine zeroed 1.5" high at 100 yards found it better for long range shots

About 165/ 170 iirc and about 4.5" of drop at 200, makes them bunnys a bit closer!

1.5 high at 100,how high would that put you at say 50-60m?

About 1.25 but it will depend on scope height, your best bet is to download a ballistics program then check out the results on paper. Hawke do a ballistic calculator that can be downloaded free.

I think that the reticle will move for less than 2" at 100 when you move magnification from 6 to 24. Best way to go around this is to zero it at around 12 and than also shoot at this magnification.

In general all SFP scope have reticle position change with magnification change but it depends how much. Swarovski Z6, Z4, NF scopes, Leica guaranty less than 2cm at 100m, but others do not and have reticles that move more than that. Vixen 2.5-10x56 is notorious with about 6cm reticle position change on 100m when going from 2.5x to 10x.

Totally different issue is bullet drop compensation that others are referring to.
