Electric toothbrush plastic parts touching teeth

I'm using an electric toothbrush (Braun) and from time to time (almost every other brushing, even when I'm careful) the plastic head or the extending part below it touch my teeth, making a drilling-like sound.

My question is whether that contact between the oscillating plastic and a tooth can damage the enamel or cause periodontal damage.
