Hi all, long time member posting on a new account for confidentiality reasons.

I graduated in 2009 with a degree that's heavily tied into the construction industry, obviously there was no work at that time so I went straight back into further education and diversified into a technology role that can be related to my primary degree but can also stand up on its own if required

I got a job immediately on qualification from my MSc. solely but the job has no relation at all to my original degree, which I really enjoyed completing.

I enjoy my current role and have been at it about 12 months, people are nice, boss is one of the soundest I've ever had but the money is poor. I've been offered a role with a large firm with a pay increase of 50% on top of what I currently earn but moving back towards the construction industry. The role would allow me to use my entire skillset across both degrees which is something I am very interested in doing. They are long established and I have spoken with the person I would be directly replacing and her role has been extremely busy for the last few years and the company is growing.

I guess my reservation is moving from an industry that's growing but currently not paying towards one that's in contraction but with much higher initial pay rates. There's also the fact that I know I would kick myself for not taking the chance to work using both degrees down the line.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for from the thread but if anyone has any opinions I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks.

I wwas in a similar situation 6 months ago and now Im on the dole having been let go. Could you approach your current boss andtell him what you have been offered? If he really feels the business cant cope without you then maybe you could get a pair increase.

Have done this morning and that seems to be the way things are going. Could you send me a PM with some of the specifics about previous role and the one you jumped into? If you don't mind!

It looks like you were into your degree course and the construction end of it. The fact that you are recently qualified means that you have your whole career ahead of you. Will construction pick up in Ireland again? Yes most definitely however not to the same levels. I think that you could progress your career in this area to a certain level, though the threat of being let go at any time is a concern.

Is there an opportunity to work internationally with eother employer? Somehow, I think the new offer in your interest area is where your heart lies.....
