Who bets in shops?

Now I know people will say there’s good craic and atmosphere etc and they can have great specials but is there. At least online you can get the best price or easily find the better price between the bookies you have accounts with me.

I'll be honest, I never really bet in shops much anymore but was in town with a few hours to kill on Friday and popped into 3 shops

Boyles. Paddy Powers and a betpack shop

All were reasonably busy but Boyles probably had the same as the other two put together and Powers and Betpack had roughly the same as each other in their shops

Now it was a Friday and Newbury was on but I had to say the atmosphere in Powers was horrid, barely anybody even bothering to look up from the racing, the smell of alcohol and guysjust betting all the stupid cartoon races that they have on sis,+, turf tv and some Powers channel akin to lucky downs. Loads of gimiicky bets like name any 3 to place in the first 3 in any order at 12/1

Boyles too had all this going but seemed to have a better atmosphere, loads of lads chatting and enjoying the racing and shouts and roars when Zarkadar won. They too had loads of specials like horse and hounds and even hounds and roulette

Screens moving so fast my head started to hurt looking at it all

Betpack had less of the markets on screen, quietist crowd but nice enough to sit in and watch racing and counter seemed to busy enough with manager talking to regulars

where would you bet and why?
Are these extra markets any good as they seemed complete garbage to me
Whose really the best for actual specials and whose the best for three card trickery?

I prefer Paddy Power. I usually bet in the local shop especially when the bigger events are on.

Ive knocked the gambling on the head for a while but I gave up backing in shops ages ago, they just have so many virtual races, dog races international races on its hard to actually focus on the real racing, I really like online betting as you can research your bets in peace and from the comfort of your home.

Spend a lot of times in shops.
Can't comment on Betpack but I can certainly comment on the others
    (& Ladbrokes).

Ladbrokes Daily specials are some 10 minute Lock in's where they give an enhanced special Sports and Racing - No Max stake.
6 for 5 Dog Tricasts Max Stake 10,
MBS 2nd to the Fav in a race, max €100.
    No enhanced horses.
Shop only enhanced soccer trebles which are sometimes Ladbrokes have higher online odds!

Boyles enhance at least 3 horses on the show 1 pip up (used to be 2 during January) - 200 max.
Soccer Doubles nothing special mainly rounded up instead of an enhance.
Horses Doubles enhanced up 1 pip.
    No other specials of note.

    PP
Enhance SA Horses 2 pips, more ordinary during afternoons 1 pip - Max 1,000.
They do lots of racing specials throughout the day sometimes all through the meeting i.e. today they were money back if you were 2nd at Doncaster all races - beaten up to a length but not including a length - Max 200.
Also doing 100% bonus max 200 if your horse won by 6 lengths or more - all races at Punchestown today.
    Racing Doubles/Trebles enhanced 1 pip.
    Soccer Doubles/Trebles 1 pip.
They sometimes do the same Treble as Ladbrokes and are always a higher price.

PP were 10/3 today Man City to win each half, Boyles were 11/4, they were also 5/1 Aguero 1st goal, Lads were 3/1.
Boyles were 7/1 McIlroy, Clarke & McDowell all to win in the golf today, PP were 13/2.
Boyles were 16/1 all the favs to place at Punchestown, Lads were 9/1.
Ladbrokes are currently NRNB in the main Cheltenham races, nobody else is so it makes sense to check all the offers out there.
Coming up to Cheltenham a lot of bookies will be doing special offers to get people in so make sure you go into each shop and see what they have on special offer.

Thanks okidoki987 for the heads up, I've no doubt the game is ultra competitive but I wonder are all these types of enhancements a bit like supermarket offers, yellow stickers to blind the punter and confuse and get them with other betting products

I have to say I was really taken back by the atmosphere and amount of wierd race specials in one of the 3 and wonder are they related

JONJO THE MISER I'd rather not say which town/city it was just incase a manager of said shop was reading and feels I'm bad mouthing said establisment

    I'll PM if you like

I often spend a Friday or Saturday afternoon in one of the local betting offices, most Sundays myself and Dad would. I wouldn't head in and use the RP on the wall for studying and bet in every race, I have done though in the past. I'd have my studying done and would either bet online or in the actual shop.

The virtual stuff etc is easily ignored.

Never bet online anymore. I do my research and then go to a shop. It's usually Boyles on Suffolk Street.
