    Hello,

I thought it would be a good idea to create a thread so that people who come across advertisments for Engineering students placements could put up some info on the thread.

    Yeah they are paid.

Heres a list off the top of my head of other companies that offer paid internships, its a bit weighted towards the E&E sector.

    Analog Devices
    Intel
    Texas Instruments
    ESB/ESBI/ESB Networks
    Shanahan Engineering
    Tyndall Institute
    Eirgrid
    Bord Gais
    Bord na Mona
    Irish Rail
    Arup
    Pzifer
    GSK

You could also try contact Engineers Ireland for more places.

If you get offered one take it, great experience. I worked two summers there, one in a power station and the other in ESBI in a non engineering role. I learned loads both summers and the internships are usually quite focused so you wont be left sitting in a corner.

The interviews are less about your grades and technical ability and more about how interested in engineering you are. Make sure to research what all the different parts of the ESB do eg Power Generation, Networks, ESBI because you will be asked this and if you give a bad answer it'll be a deal breaker in the interview. Also make sure you're CV is perfect, they get so many applicants that they have to weed it down to a manageable number and seeing typos on your CV is a good way to have you CV thrown into the rejected pile.

Towards the end of April, its a bit annoyingly late, my interview was in the middle of my exams and then I started three weeks later.

That was two years ago so the timeframe may have changed, make sure to apply for a couple of places, with the amount of applicants they get there's a certain element of luck regardless of your CV and interview so its best to not put all your eggs in one basket.

Does anyone know if companies offer some form of work experience for people that are not in 3rd or 4th year? I'm in 1st year Mech Eng (mature student) and I'm hoping to get some experience as this level 7 degree doesn't have a dedicated work experience component. I know I can just ask around too, just wondering if anyone got experience before the work experience part of their course.

    Yes. €1,575 per month.

I've spent the last three days perfecting my CV, anything down in Clare/Limerick? I've been calling non-stop all day today. Wasn't this hard to get a job last year and I didn't have a tenth of the experience I have now. :(

Some of us need to for accommodation and registration for next year unfortunately. :( If I had the choice and had everything paid for I'd be trying to get up to Mondello everyday and give everyone a hand free of charge!

Would there be any chance of getting a summer internship at this late stage, even unpaid? Got rejected by the ESB and I've looked through the above list and there doesn't seem to be any vacancies in those companies for students.

At this stage it would be quite hard, but not impossible. Id say you're better off looking at the smaller companies and sending in a good cv and cover letter to either HR or one of the engineering managers asking for an internship, even if its just for a few weeks.
