UK Mobile Spectrum Winners Must Pay £110m to fix TV Interference

4G TV interference: Up to a million homes 'need filters'

If such a pattern were reflected here it would cost 4G spectrum winners around €8-10m to fix interfence problems.

Sadly, in Ireland, we are at the mercy of Comreg who will do nothing for the consumer.
Almost a million UK homes will need to have filters installed to prevent TV interference from 4G mobile signals - at a cost of £108m.
A smaller number of homes - about 10,000 - will need to switch to satellite or cable TV services in order to avoid degraded picture quality.
Homes that cannot receive these alternative platforms will receive up to £10,000 each to "find a solution".
Costs will be met by the winner of a spectrum auction later this year.

Most of the interference will occur near 800mhz, eg channels 68 and 69 and much will be caused by wideband amplifiers which can be replaced easily with something a tad more narrow and specific.

    See the original Ofcom Report

There'll be nothing used for tv above channel 60. Any problems outside of interference caused to domestic equipment by the handsets will be because of ACI on channel 60.

Different rules will apply here, Comreg say it will be RTÉNL's responsibility to inform trade/viewers of potential interference from mobile services into broadcasting frequencies and for trade/viewers to reduce the possibility of interference problems during aerial upgrade/replacement by installing filters, correct aerial, removing masthead amps etc.

RTÉNL has added information to the latest Saorview FAQ and the Dept of Communications has included information regarding mobile interference to its website.

"fixing" the Interference is FANTASY as the LTE uses Mobile Handsets that wipe out local Cable TV & Broadband even worse than DTT.

Also have they NEVER heard of Mobile and Portable TVs? The big advantage of DTT over BB/IPTV (which is tethered) or Satellite/Cable.

It's a disaster caused by Regulator greed. The 900 & 1800 Spectrum would be ample if Operators built enough masts.

The more masts the LESS interference (as handsets /dongles run lower power) and the more capacity (greater speed).

The "Digital Dividend" is an example of Government & Regulator greed driven by the expectation created of the 3G auctions.

Also 2300MHz and 2600Mhz have far more spectrum than the Digital Dividend and are LTE bands too.

Good point, the interference will largely come from phones in the home looking for a signal. And Ireland is overly reliant on this tech.

Whatever about 2300 the 2600 band will not be available in Ireland ( and especially in Urban areas where the 900mhz interference will likely be worst) until after MMDS is turned off in April 2014.

Why did you link to that old thread re. frequency allocations?
