Aldi have indoor Lemon, Orange and Olive trees at the moment. €19.99. Much more expensive in garden centres. I bought one two years ago and it's now huge with loads of fruit.

Are they much work to keep in good shape? And is the fruit nice from them?

Are those trees not for decoration? Is that fruit edible? I'd imagine any proper citrus tree producing any amount of decent fruit would be the size of my dining room and would need sunlight at least 10-12 hours a day?

I'm sure it wouldn't last too long if I planted it in my back garden.

Edit: I stand to be corrected though!

Have a lemon tree in a large pot, fair bit of lemons on it, just cover it with something to get through the winter but not needed this year.

i bought some dwarf lemon and cherry trees for my mother a couple of years ago and they're great, they look more like shrubs than trees and they get loads of fruit.

they're not specifically indoor ones though and are unrelated to the aldi offer, i just thought i'd share. :)

Saw them today and they look nice. Said to keep them between 5 degrees and 10 degrees centigrade... which to me seems to rule out outside and inside.

xraylady That sounds great. I would love some fruit trees. I tried an olive one before but it died on me.

I wonder could you share some information about your success?

Which fruit trees worked for you?
did you keep it inside or outside?
    did you repot it?
do you put fertiliser on it?
did the room you kept it in get much sun?

    Cheers!

i can't remember exactly where i got the trees for my mother, but i do remember that something they did which was pretty cool, was to have 2 varieties of fruit on the same tree.

i.e. the cherry tree i got her was 2 different varietes of cherry trees that had been spliced together as saplings and had grown as a single tree, but with one variety of cherry on each side. i think they also did the same with apple and orange varieties and other stuff as well, although I only ever got her the one dual fruit tree.

it was actually a mothers day 'thing' for a while, so i might well see if i can get her another one this year. :)

Hi, I have only tried lemon trees. I kept in inside in a sun room/ conservatory. South facing so lots of light. Repotted it as it got bigger and used citrus compost and feed which I bought in Homebase. It has grown so vigorously that I usually cut it back to get some shape on it. It doesnt seem "sensitive" to quite hard pruning. I leave it get quite dry between waterings and certainly havent been giving it loads of attention or anything. Good luck with it!
