    Hey, guys

Could I build an own spray booth without breaching laws?
What are the regulations that I have to comply with?

I tried searching the net for info with no luck so far.
    :(

There will be directives the Dept of the Environment can to furnish you with. Most spray booths are subject to inspections to make sure any harmful toxins are being disposed of responsibly, and you will need to have a contract in place with a Hazardous waste company for the removal of waste thinners and any contaminated materials such as wipe down rags, etc.

    It's going to get rough...

I suppose I need to ring DoE to get more info about all that stuff.

There are no regulations enviromentally regarding a spraybooth. Only regulations you would need to follow are for the electrics. This would need to be carried out buy a qualified electrician. You don't actually need a spray booth to spray cars as long as you can close the door to hazardous spray fumes that don't exhaust into neighbours etc. But there's a catch. It's next to impossible to stay in an unvented room spraying paint. You will need to supply fresh filtered air to the room and extract the paint vapours out. The best way is to direct the duct straight up with high velocity fan. Atex rated fan this means explosion proof. Where the vapours are being screeched you would need to put a paint stop filter. It's a fibreglass mesh type filter that traps larger paint particles. These can be bought in rolls .7 or 1m wide and 20 m etc long. Can get from 2 pack supplies, monkstown ave. Camfill in coolock. Vinnybyrne santry and ballyfermot. It makes your fan last longer.
It's possible to make a spraybooth but it will need 3 phase electricity as most fans needed for the capacity and room air changes are quite big approx 7kw each. A decent airchange rate is 5 per minute. So calculate your room volume widthxlengthxheigth in meters and multiply by 5. This will give you idea of fan size required. It will be in cubic meters per minute. Multiply by 60 if you need fan rates per hour. There are a couple of spraybooths for sale on donedeal that represent value for money as I bought mine 5 years ago for €55,000. You can pick up second hand for €5,000 or less.
Also to remember that lighting is v important. You need light in the colour range of 6500kelvin. And lots of it. If you can buy led style tubes. They are pricey but give high quality light no flicker and use half the wattage of a normal 58 watt tube

    That's a fantastic guide!
    Thank you very, very much.
We have started building our own spray booth. It's approx 6.5L*4W*3H. Wooden frame and panels ready. Will cover the inside part with a heat resistant foil, get the right size/type fans, sort the other machinery. Electricity - 3 phase, definitely.
Not sure about the lighting yet. LED's are really good. I've installed some at home, a small DIY job, and room looks fantastic.
    That's
