I see that this is on tonight on RTE2.

Just looking for some opinions from fans of movies from this part of the world, is it worth setting the box to record?

And then you can watch A Tale of Two Sisters, A Bittersweet Life, The Host and I Saw the Devil.

Jee-woon Kim is Korea's finest genre deconstructer!

Cool, have seen A Bittersweet Life & The Host. Didn't realise it was the same director.

Will have to check out the others too. Thanks for the recommendations!

All of Kim's films are excellent, but I think A Tale of Two Sisters is my favourite. Definitely one of the best horror films of recent years. Too bad about the horrible Blu-ray.

Actually The Host was directed by Joon-ho Bong who also did Memories of Murder and Mother. ;)

I've seen A Tale of Two Sisters maybe twice, and I'm almost too scared to watch it again. :o I saw the devil is probably my favourite of Kim's ;) also, his first film was the quiet family, which is well worth a watch too!

I always get Bong and Kim mixed up as well actually. They are both part of the same new wave of mainstream South Korean directors.

I think another one to look out for will be Hong-jin Na who directed The Chaser, and the new one The Yellow Sea:

Yeah The Chaser is fantastic. Didn't think Yellow Sea was quite as good. The plot was very messy and the editing a bit too rough. Still one of the best adult thrillers from last year though.

I've not seen the Yellow Sea yet, really want to check it out though.

does chan wook park need mentioning? thirst is one of my favourites ever!
