I was wondering do cheap last minute flights really exist?

    Just out of curiosity.

    no .

Ive noticed the longer you leave it the higher the price goes!! can anyone answer why this is?

Should they not try and sell out a flight with low prices rather than higher the rate. ok i know ppl in emergencies will pay the outrageous costs but surely there would be more sales from last minute bargain hunters ?

It seems a bit bizarre to me too!

It's not just airlines. Try booking a train to Cork to travel same day and you'll discover there aren't many deals to be had.

The nature of air travel is such that the majority of passengers are aware in advance of their need to travel and book accordingly. Years ago airlines best deals were had under what were called "super-apex" fares, which were return fares where you booked at least a month in advance and stayed at least two nights, or a saturday night at your destination.

If airlines started to offer last minute bargains then few would bother booking in advance, making it impossible for airlines to effectively plan routes and loading factors.

I knew people who used to have a bag packed from the start of the school holidays. Every Thursday/Friday they would ring around the travel agents looking for last minute deals. They used to get them too. Every thing paired to the bone now I'm afraid. Almost no charters out of Cork this summer, all sun routes with Aer Lingus or Ryanair.:(

In my experience, book as early as possible for diy holidays

We are lucky enough to be very flexible with our summer holiday dates, it wouldn't be unusual for me to be looking at flight prices 9 or 10 months in advance, so that means not long back from hols and planning the next, a little an*l I know but get the best price that way as a general rule

We booked recently for Tenerife with Ryanair in september, it's gone nearly a €100 since we booked, so early booking is essential.
