Seen a Hunt a few fields away from me at the weekend.

They didn't come onto my land and if they did i would bring them up for trespass.

I have no intention of letting them onto my land but i'm sure they'd ask permission even though some people have told me they don't.

Anybody know more about these hunts and how they operate etc ..

Every Hunt is different, some well run, others not so.
There are 3 packs in our area. The Tipperary's will send a card and a rep to call on you before they come to your area, to ask permission. The other 2 are not as organised.
I hunted a good bit myself in the past. If due care is taken, no farmer really minds, but some areas are over-hunted and then even the good hunts get a bad name.:(

they ask here for entry and we always let them in , they broke a few fences last weekend but they came out and put up a better fence that was never there before , they also have 3 or 4 free nights out for the farmers during the year , they way i look at it is the land will always be there and it could be alot worse if a family member was sick

They haven't asked here for several years but I have a neighbour bounding me who's horse mad and they're always in with him so probably believe they have right to cross mine. Last year a few rode into the yard, the head lad came over to talk ****e to me while another fella dismounted to open a gate so they could head off down the car roads. I went checking fences before I let cows out and found a strand of high tensile wire cut and hoof marks up the ditch, there was no chance of rejoining it. This winter I parked a tractor across every gate out of the yard and watched them wonder how they would get down across the fields before they had to ride back out the lane.
I'll never let them have access to my yard or land as long as they don't have the manners to ask for permission

Theyre a joke in my area, I support the local hunt up to a point but the others I have little respect for. Some of the other hunts are offshots from the main hunt and now hunt before the local hunt just to annoy everyone. The county hunt just ride roughshot over any lands and have no respect even when told they are not welcome. It hard for a fragmented farm, as usually we will only visit each farm once in the day and we are not around to observe the going on for the rest of the day. I would nearly take the opportunity to name these gits that are causing the proper hunt so many problems. Most farmers now are not letting them in. Unfortunately its a couple of bad apples that destroy it for everyone

You'd think the least they'd do is ask permission.

Otherwise they have no right to be on anyone's land.

And what if one of them had an accident...... You know , all is fine till something happens.

    my sentiments exactly.

they come on my land every year - they always ask permission and are hugely polite and courteous.

And if the weather turns really wet even after they ask permission, they ALWAYS cancel.

Do you mean hunt as in lads on horses, or just lads with dogs?

We have the lads with dogs around our place, usually some crowd of them out every Sunday. Why you would want to waste a Sunday at it is beyond me - but each to his own ;)

They have never asked as far as I know (the gun club have asked, the harrier clubs have not) but I have made my objections known, and they try to steer clear of the place now.

I would say next time you see them, just let them know you dont want them in your place. Re your comment of tresspass above - I would advise going easy... I was annoyed as well when they came in, but chances are some of them could well be your neighbours... So is it worth falling out with em?
If they take the piss, by all means take it futher, but dont let law be the first port of call would be my suggestion.

I agree with your comment on trespass. Your right, but I do at least expect them to ask permission before runnning anything up 20 or 30 horses over my land .
