Mad idea they are like trying to fatten greyhounds. Better off buying decent calves that would be worth feeding.

nearly better off buying holsteins, jerseys would scarcley be worth more as weanling, waste of money, time and effort, seen a jersey bull being sold for €10 the other day, buyer would be paying €9 comm. and seller paying €9,so the seller made €1,wasnt worth his while, when a calf is selling for a tenner theres a reason why

I have to disagree if they were good healthy calves ( I presume you are talking about Jersy/Fresian crosses) If I was buying calves I chance some of them they will finish early at light weights and will not grade but so what if you buy a calf for 50 euro you can afford to sell him for a lot less than a calf for 400 euro. Also as they are hybrids they will be healthy calves.

I picked up some weanling last September they are doing ok two great calves in them I leaving them as bulls they will finish before Christmas and I be suprised if they will not kill around the 300kgs mark

I have 2 x 11 month old jerseyX bulls. They are in our herd no and in terms ours but they are a pet project for my 6 year old nephew. Last years cost 35e he has a great time. Id say not they have cost €300 all in for 2 animals so im sure they will leave him a few euro and more than anything its a healthy activity for him
