288 views and one email which probably isn't a serious buyer has me questioning if I've completely over priced this.

I did do some research and believe that based on the mileage and condition of my OH's car compared to the others on donedeal/carzone etc, that this was a fair price. (With some small downward negotiation possible if needed)

Am I completely wrong on this?

I'm surprised you haven't had more interest to be honest, it might be worth pointing out in the ad if it's an Irish car or an import.

Lots of 3 series' out there at the minute. I bought an 04 E46 with a slightly higher spec and similar mileage to your E90 before Christmas and it was advertised at 7.5k.

If I buying now I'd probably offer you 7.5ish and start horse trading from there. Sadly I have no more money for cool stuff since my lovely daughter arrived a week ago.

    No mention of NCT?

I'd get rid of the 'Please note this is priced to sell'. Of course it is, it's on a for sale ad website.

It sounds like you're trying to justify your price, and I don't think you need to.

Balls, no idea how I missed that. Will update.

Very true - used more as a turn of phrase than anything. Will update that along with the above.

I'd suggest you mention the NCT (-edit- yes, I'm slow), general assumption is that if its not mentioned it doesn't have one.
A 2L petrol is going to be a challenge to offload at any price these days.

Also change the 318i BWM to 318i BMW, higer to higher and is it to it is much cheaper.....

The above make it look like you rushed the ad and didn't proof read before submitting it.

I think it is just the market at the moment

I am in the same boat, don't think mine is overpriced (but I suppose nobody does) and there has been little interest

I think it is just a buyers market as there are a lot of options out there for people who are looking for a bargain

I would have thought overpriced a bit..

jaysus it must be a right depressed market.

Just for comparison an '06 318 in Germany with around 80,000km is between 10,350 and 14 grand on mobile.de

I should buy a car in Ireland and bring it back with me to germany next time im home!!

Funnily enough I was listening to Matt Cooper last night interviewing the new German Ambassador to ireland and he bought his car in England before moving over here as it worked out cheaper as he doesn't have to pay import duty

Depends on what you are selling I guess, I am selling an 03 Saab 93 so there is a lot of choice available in that age and price range

This isnt a great example of cheap cars in Ireland..
There is a 2005 535d up forsale on DD for EUR8500, price that up in Germany!

I imagine the market for them is tiny, you'd get a lot more car for similar money, a 2.0 petrol 2006 3 series saloon simply isn't in demand, lots for sale, not many wants it.

    €8000 is a lot of money, a 318 isn't a lot of car imo.

I was looking through carzone/donedeal over the weekend just gone and was thinking how the petrol 3 series asking prices, to me, seem delirious.

Just after Christmas a 2nd hand car dealer had a 2005 330i saloon priced at under €7000, it was one of the few 3 series saloons I have seen that was actually priced to sell, and sell it did :)

Obviously a 318 and a 330 are different kettles of fish but if you want that 318 gone I reckon you'll need to knock €1500 off your asking price and let it go for a few hundred less than that, alternatively wait it out and see does it shift.

Most folks spending €8000 on a 2006 318 saloon would veer away from a private sale.

Edit, with new tyres and serviced €1500 might be excessive, say €1000, I thought the add said it needed a service and I missed the bit about it being done prior to sale.

"Due a service now - this will be done prior to sale."

Why not get the service out of the way now? Post up a pic of proof that it's just been done too.

Speaking of, your photos could be better. Take some in daylight without the flash, especially of the interior. If putting up a photo of your new tyres, try dressing them a little. They may be minor things but these would be the things I'd be looking at!

for that youd be talking in or around the 15 grand mark in Germany.

the tax is probably the problem driving down demand in Ireland along with the thirst of the thing.
Irish tax is €1683 a year
In Germany a slightly more managable €540 a year
(btw, tax for a 3.5L petrol would be only €236 !!!)

EDIT: the 15 grand is for a car of 175,000+km - any less on the clock and youre looking at between 18and 20 grand and thats still with the clock reading a 6figure number

A lot of potential buyers would rather pay less for the car and deal with the servicing (or not) themselves.

Was originally going to put it up for 7500 but when I looked around, I figured 8500 minus negotiation would be fair....

I will be getting this done, just wanted to get an ad up in the meantime to see what interest there might be. I can't get the service done until next week and was planning on updating the ad once its done!

I'm surprised there's so little interest out there at the moment. I realise the 318i isn't the best car to be selling - probably one of the worst actually - but I still thought well-maintained cars would sell pretty quickly if priced fairly.

Think I'll give it a few weeks and then look at dropping the price to move it on....

    .

I dunno......I'd have thought there would always be a market for a tidy 3 series, especially a 318i as an 'affordable entry point' into premium car ownership.

And if you think a 318i is bad.......I shudder to think what I could get for my GS300!:(

BTW, might be worth advertising on bmw-driver.net

Tell me about it - I have an IS250 and would never be able to sell it privately. Costs a fortune to run also given the hike in petrol prices. Averaging around 21mpg!!!

Never thought of that - cheers.

Second hand larger petrol cars here are probably cheaper than anywhere else in the world. Despite our high VAT and extremely high VRT. Sign of the times...

I think it's just the way things are at the minute Zeuss.

I've had my car for sale since Sunday and only had two calls, one genuine and one offering me €2000

Maybe re-do the ad and pictures and see how it goes

If you get secondhand replica RS6's, tint the windows, some German plates you'll probably get more calls and sell it for closer to asking.

    I'm serious btw.

It seems to be a particularly thirsty engine. Stats are as follows:

    City driving - 12.0l/100km (19.6mpg)
    Motorway driving - 8l/100km (29.4mpg)
    Combined - 24.5mpg

Now thats with careful driving in both. For "spirited" driving the figure drops to about 13.3l/100km which is just under 18mpg!!!!!!!

    That would be screenwash.....

If people think its coolant it could be putting them off.

To be honest its one of the better ads, just missing a few bits is all. Best of luck with the sale.

OP, it's a petrol beemer, if it were a 320d, yer phone would be ringing.......I sell Diesels all day and night, don't bother with petrols no more as there's little market for them no more unless they are cheap run arounds with lots of test or tax on them.........

....the country and car market is fu(ked (like you did'nt know) ......hang on tho', someone will come along as it looks like a decent example.

    Need better pics,
Give it a wash and polish and hover...Then pics of,
    Front
    Rear
    Left Side
    Right Side
    Under Bonnet
    Alloy (Showing new tyre)
    Driver Side Interior
    Passenger Side Interior
    Boot (Cleaned out)
And then one pic of the car in a nice location, shined up and looking its best to really sell it.

Tell me about it. Unfortunate as a lot of people caught up in the diesel popularity wave will never see a return on the extra they pay.

Can only wait and see as you say!
