Hot destinations with attractions

Hi all,

Looking for a little advice here. Want to go on holidays around August with the OH and we are looking for a combination of sun and attractions that's also relatively cheap. We've been to Budapest and Rome, both times in May, and they were great. Last summer we were in Lanzarote in May and were bored senseless. Lying at the pool/beach just isn't our thing.

Can anyone recommend a destination for us? Somewhere with historical/cultural sites and nice for eating out etc.

Also want to eliminate Paris and Prague from the possibilities. We were looking at Dubrovnic but it seems a tad expensive for accommodation. All input really appreciated.

Hey!

We usually like a combination of sights and sun, so we're going to Malta this May. I cant tell you yet how cheap it will be over there, but we picked up cheap flights with Ryanair and cheap half board basis hotel.

We're hoping to do some snorkeling, wander around Valletta and visit:
