Good screen resolution but small interface

Recently bought two samsung 21" monitors for dual display and although the screen resolution is clear the actual interface is very small and it's difficult to read. Everything fits to screen but when using software the font is very small, I know I can zoom in and out on word, excel and internet but alot of the apps that I use don't have this option. I tried to adjust the resolution but then the picture becomes blurred and I also tried to resize the screen in the control panel but to no avail.

    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Control panel > display and adjust font up to 150%

    (assuming Windows 7?)

In XP/2003 it's Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > General, change to 120 dpi (125%) or Custom settings. (may require installation disk if source files aren't on the hard disk).

If the native resolution is 1920x1080, 21" monitors are pretty small indeed.

Thanks for the replies, I had already done what you both suggested by increasing the DPI in windows 7, however some of the applications I use are not DPI aware so the UI in those application is clipped and or the layout is wrong.

This is probably caused by "DPI Virtualization".

You can disable this feature on a system-wide basis by selecting the Use Windows XP style DPI scaling check box in the Custom DPI Setting dialog box.

To disable DPI virtualization for a single application, right-click the name of the application executable file, click Properties, click the Compatibility tab, and then select the box labeled Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
