I'm notincing how large the stolen bike thread is getting and I thought I'd share this if people didn't know. You can now register your bicycle at bridewell and donnybrook garda station. Once registered your bike is on a nationwide database and if its recoverd by AGS they will have an owner to return it to instead of it being auctioned off.

The garda at the desk in Donnybrook said this was being planned on being rolled out nationwide shortly.

It is free to do so there is no reason not to.

See here for a copy of the form

Some more details on this program, originally posted to FB by the Dublin Cycling Campaign.

Just to note (my own observations from being at the meeting mentioned below): this pilot program is in Irishtown and Donnybrook Garda stations, and uses the Garda PULSE database to register bikes. It's separate from one at the Bridewell. The Donnybrook pilot is to test the feasibility of using PULSE in this instance, and Sgt. Mulhern is keen to get as many registrations as possible to prove the concept.

Fight bike theft! Take your bike to Donnybrook Garda Station and they will register it, making it much more likely you'll get it back if the worst happens. They're piloting a bike registration scheme which will allow Gardaí round the country check the 'pulse' garda computer system when they find a stolen bike. Garda Sergeant Fergus Mulhern came to our meeting last night and gave us a run-down on how it will work. See http://dublincycling.com/theft for more info on theft.

Just a note on how people can register for this. This is from an email I got from Sgt Mulhern after I asked about it today.
"At the moment only employees of certain businesses in the Donnybrook and Irishtown areas can submit forms by email. Also people with U.C.D. email addresses. Its to ensure that someone can't steal a bike and register it with us. In order to register you would have to bring your bike to Donnybrook or Irishtown Garda Station. We are hoping to expand the ways that one can register but at the moment its very limited."

Why do you have to take your bike to the Garda station?
Some boardsies have ten bikes (probably more if they would just come clean about their addiction.)

I don't mean to appear rude but, did you read the post above yours?
