I have been doing a lot of research recently, my dogs are on James Wellbeloved, doing well but this brand is getting quiet pricey, even on www.zooplus.co.uk

Lukullus works out around €40 for a 15kg bag and it's "cold-pressed" whatever that means but I heard a lot of good things about this and also, Lukullus has only 5 stars review on zooplus.

I have ordered the wet food before, with my zooplus points and my dogs LOVED it, I was so impressed, this wet food looks like paté you'd feed humans !

Does anyone has an opinion on this brand ?

Well it's zooplus own brand so I would assume it'd have 5 stars lol!! We got a sample bag of it for free when they were launching it and a just a few pieces of it ran the insides out of my guy so never again - but every dog is different!! Vetuk, medicanimal and petmeds always work out cheaper for JWB in my experience - vetuk and medicanimal both give 10% off if you buy 2 bags. I check the prices on all of them and order from the cheapest though he's on raw food now and just gets dry for training/treats so I don't buy it as often as I used to. Markus Muhle on zooplus looks similar?

It looks to be similar to Markus Muhle, I haven't used either myself so couldn't comment on the results. But the ingredients do look good, I wasn't able to find any info on the protein level so I would like to see that but would assume that it is around 25% like MM. From a google search most of those who have used it are happy with it.

I've heard that Swedish pet food has to be of a standard fit for human consumption. Maybe you could find something similar on Zooplus.ie

Bozita is available from zooplus, which is swedish and looks good! My friend swears by their cat food.

My both Westies are on Lukullus (wet in the morning / dry in the evening) and they both are happy with it (well they go mad for it :D) i picked it because it was coldpressed (why http://www.farmfood.co.uk/dogfood/premium-quality/natural-holistic/why_cold_pressed_dogfoods.html). Finally found the right food for my dogs :)

I have my dog on the dry Lukullus now since last august, and she is doing excellent on this food, previously she was on orjen but id said id try this cause of the price difference and good looking ingrediants list.

So far so good dogs weight is stable, poos are good and shes quite happy to eat it, coat looks good etc.

Also if you can affoard it they do they a double pack of the 15kg bags for an even better price.

We have our large dog >32 kg on hills j/d, costing a bomb. Anyone recommend an alternative. We think she is around 8 years old (rescue) with hip dysplaia.

Hi ros123, I have a lab who is around 8-9 Years old with hip dysplasia and arthritis and we feed her burns chicken and brown rice. We give her 3 drops of arthri-aid in her food every day and she also gets metacam. A couple of times a week I give her oily fish. I personally don't believe in those prescription foods, I think they just a big money spinner! My other dog was on d/d and to be honest I didn't notice the difference when I switched her onto burns, she also has cardiomyopathy Ucd haven't recommended h/d but i bet my regular vet would have! I think alot of senior foods have added glucosamine and chondroitin. Burns works for me, as I wanted a food for all three dogs however there probably is a better option for an older dog if you aren't going to give supplements! I would never buy the food from vet, medic animal costs 2 x 12kg 102£ or zooplus 104£ for j/d with free delivery. The arthriaid is pricey enough but is covered by her insurance so maybe if your dog didn't have insurance it is probably just as cheap to stay on j/d without supplements if you are happy with the results. My dog is bouncing around the place not a bother to her but if we ever run out of metacam or arthriaid she gets very stiff.

Mille,, thanks for that, firstly we don't have insurance. We are feeding j/d twice a day, morning with half an egg, evening with half a small tin of tuna. We are paying around 80 for 12kg, last apporx 5 weeks.

We haven't used meta calm for a long time now. I wonder about trying the burns with metacam and maybe human glucosamine sulphate. How much to give though ?

She is on 2 cups of burns per day and was on metacam 30 once a day but vet said we could reduce her down to 25 and see how she goes. We gave reduced it and havent noticed any difference! I am not an expert on the nutrition end so I don't know if burns is any worse than j/d! I always buy the big bottle of metacam 180 I think it's 70€ and it lasts ages a good 2 months if not more! We buy arthriaid 500ml I think it's about 45 euro but bigger bottles are available she gets 3 pumps per day and I think it lasts max two months. Basically the bigger bottles you buy the cheaper it is! Honestly there is not a bother on the dog is so bouncy and is no pain at all and the vet said her hips were 7 out of 10 on bad scale! Plus she has arthritis and spondylosis!
