Any hints for haggling with dealer? HP v loan

    Hi,

Can ignore the HP/Loan part of the title - got that sorted!

In the middle of negotiating with a dealer for a 2011 car. Listed at €19,900. Am trading in and was offered the new car for €13,250 with my own. Think my car is worth around the €6,000 mark alright. After a bit of toing and froing I got the salesman down to €12,500.

Is there any other tips or tricks for getting the best deal from a dealer? Anything I should ask to get thrown in?Tax is €160 a year and tried getting that thrown in but was told he'd prefer to negotiate on price.

I would be hoping for an extended warranty (€350 or €450) and he's going to consider what he can add that on for and get back to me.

    Any views or tips welcome,

    S

The only way to know if it is a really good deal is to go to another few garages and see what deal they can do on a similar car.
