    Hi all,

My 99 Fiat Punto finally decided to die, and it needs replacing. Looking to purchase a replacement for in and around 3-3.5k

Ideally 5 door, 1.2-1.3l, good mpg, not diesel. What car makes would you recommend to look at?

This car would mainly be used for shopping/school trips, the odd mifty trip and a couple of trips from dublin to kilkenny a year.

    Any help much aprpeciated!

    Fiesta 1.25.

Reliable (once it has been serviced, the same as any car really - by the way Puntos are reliable enough when they've been serviced on time too:)) good to drive, economical, fast (for the engine size) and safe (for the size of car) if you go for the model introduced after 2003.

I'd second the Fiesta I love my one it has never given me an ounce of trouble bar having to replace the battery which on an 04 car is no biggy

DON'T buy a car based on mileage - buy on condition and most importantly service history.

Avoid the 1.3 in the Fiesta - it's slower, noisier and less economical than the 1.25.

    This.

Plus the fact that it is very slow. If you want a reliable 1.4 it's hard to beat a Corolla plus they're pretty quick for what they are.

I'd still go with the 2003-2008 model Fiesta though.
