Hi there. I am getting Sky in and wondering will their engineer use my current free to air dish? I allready am getting feed from this dish to 6 tv points AOK.
My main concern is if they are being feed off 1 dish if i have a problem with SKY or FTA It will be harder to trouble shoot i assume and it would be more prone to interference.
Would it negate the guaruntee on the Satellite dish from the FTA company if sky engineer interferes with it or should i insist they install their own Dish to keep things simples.

Let the Sky Subby install his own Dish to keep things simple.
He is calling out to do a full install.
He don't know that there is a dish already fitted.

I was just wondering when he sees the existing set up he will take the handy option thats all. I thought i read somewhere that SKY have the right to use allready existing equipment at the house
    :)

Its your house and the dish you use is for receiving FTA channels.
Don't give him the handy way out. you are paying for an install from sky.
The FTA dish was installed by a Independent Installer and your warranty for that dish is with him.

If you've signed up as a new customer with Sky,then you're entitled to a full new install,ie dish and LNB,cabling and box.
Some installations may involve using existing internal cabling if the installation needs to be carried out via the attic. If you don't want this option then all the cabling will be carried out on surface, which can look messy and untidy if not properly done.
Tbf no Sky Installer should interfere with an existing FTA set-up unless you specifically request he try amalgamate the two systems on one dish which may incur extra costs.

Is there not a discount if you say you already have a dish up, and the required cabling (two cables from the dish to where the sky box is set up) and a phone connection nearby.

In that case all you need is the box and the card, not really an install per say.

Also if the required cabling is there they should not need to touch dish.

It depends on your setup, quality of dish -is it better quality than sky dish, etc. If you don't care about looks 2 dishes will work, but 2 dishes on the front of a house looks awful.

From a warrenty point of view if the old dish is not touched then there should be no issue.

You could also ask them to leave the new dish, and then sell it. Probably only worth 30 quid.

I say you have the option to choose if you want the Sky installer to install on the existing dish or install the new. When I got Sky installed I had a existing dish setup for Russian/English channels and wanted to get a second dish set up for the Sky equipment, unfortunatelly they didn't have any installation equipment to install the sky dish on the most suitable place, same pole as the the third party dish so I had to accept to use the existing dish and install the Sky cables to second and third lnb connector.

I have the same issue last year, and when they came I ask to install a second dish. They install the dish on top of the existing one no problem (both on the back of the house).
If you need any extra remote controls for your sky, they have some in the van, and they sell for a reasonable price too!!

    Kind Regards

What "installation equipment" did they not have to put a Sky dish on an existing pole, unless the pole was to big a diameter.
Sounds like a lazy Sky installer to me. Did they at least leave the dish and lnb with you?

The pole itself was big in diametre, when the first dish was setup the installation guy had to come back since he didn't have anything wide enough to attach the dish to it. Once the Sky installer arrived on the day I just got the answer that they didn't have anything wide enough to attach the dish to the pole. So I just took my existing dish and let him connect al the cables. I didn't feel like to take another day off from work to get it installed. I didn't need to take any day off to get the actual dish that was installed, it was done in the evening. Sky doesn't seem to be able to say any direction at all when during the day the installation is actually going to be carried out.

As I had no use of their dish and lnb I did not have any thought of ask to get the dish and lnb, just to lay around and taking space as they obviously are not able to install it anyway.

Cheers all. If he asks for the easy route IE using existing Satellite Dish I will tell him its belonged to my ex BF who may want it back, as its out warranty he wont believe its less old under warranty as its rusty! ;)
    thanks for your input:D
