advice on buying new car

    hi
    just looking for a bit of advice on buying a new car,
    i want 07-09 hatchback have about 9-10 grand to spend, i drive bout 100miles locally a week plus about 500 miles on motorway a month
    should i go diesel or petrol??

    kinda leaning towards either a golf gt sport tsi r a focus?

    any advice would be great?
    and if any one has dealt with webb motors before that wud b great
